EI was established in 1993 with the fusion between two worldwide organizations of teachers unions, and has 380 trade unions under its umbrella from 174 countries and 32 million teachers as members.
Education International
We are the voice of teachers and education workers around the world. Through our 383 member organisations, we represent more than 32 million teachers and education support personnel in 178 countries and territories.
Every 4th year EI has an international Convention that develops and adapts a plan of action for members. EI had an active roll in developing Unesco’s guidelines for teachers working in higher education that was installed in 1997.
The President of EI is Susan Hopgood for Australia and David Edwards is the General Secretary for the US. The main office is located in Brussels.

The 3rd Education International (EI) World Women's Conference was held from 5–7 February 2018 in Marrakech, Morocco.
Education Internationals 12. verdenskonferanse om forskning og høyere utdanning ble arrangert i Mexico City 24.–26. oktober 2023. Fagsjef Jorunn Dahl Norgård representerte Forskerforbundet.
