Education International

Education International is worldwide organization for employees in the Education sector.

EI was established in 1993 with the fusion between two worldwide organizations of teachers unions, and has 380 trade unions under its umbrella from 174 countries and 32 million teachers as members.

Education International

We are the voice of teachers and education workers around the world. Through our 383 member organisations, we represent more than 32 million teachers and education support personnel in 178 countries and territories.

Every 4th year EI has an international Convention that develops and adapts a plan of action for members. EI had an active roll in developing Unesco’s guidelines for teachers working  in higher education that was installed in 1997. 

EI's roll:

  • To  promote the profession of teacher organizations/unions and to  protect the status,  rights and interests of teachers.
  • To work for peace, democracy, social justice, equal opportunities and rights thru the development of education and teachers unions  collective strength.
  • To promote the recognition of employee trade unions rights in general

The President of EI is Susan Hopgood for Australia and David Edwards is the General Secretary for the US. The main office is located in Brussels.
