Condemns Russia's attack – supports UNICEF's emergency relief work

Forskerforbundet – The Norwegian Association of Researchers (NAR) condemns Russia's attack on Ukraine. Through our international collaborative bodies, we work to mobilize the academic community to support students and academics in the country. We have also donated NOK 25,000 to UNICEF's emergency relief work.

The humanitarian needs are great in Ukraine as a result of Russia's illegal attacks on the country. The situation is also serious for Ukrainian students and academics.

NAR condemns the attack and will do what we can to contribute to international pressure on Russia, and support for the Ukrainian people.

– Today we have donated NOK 25,000 to UNICEF's emergency relief work. We are also investigating whether we can support in other ways. Not least, we work in our international partner organizations to contribute to international pressure on Russia, says NAR's general secretary Birgitte Olafsen.

NAR is a member of the international trade union association Education International, which brings together researchers and teaching staff around the world. In collaboration with its regional branch in Europe, ETUCE, the EI has recently adopted a strong condemnation of the Russian invasion. Other parts of the international trade union movement have done the same.

NAR is also a member of the network Scholars at Risk, which helps persecuted academics around the world. They are now working to mobilize their network in support of Ukraine.

NAR was also among the organizations behind the cross-party protest against the invasion, in Oslo last week.
